Simon’s Tavern occupies what used to be an ornate hotel that opened in 1902. The hotel, constructed by Carl Gustav Simon, opened the hotel and tavern which legend holds he funded using winnings from the German lottery. A friend and local businessman, Charlie Behrendorff lent him money to complete the final phase of the hotel, but Simon passed away in 1906. The original hotel burned in the 1970s and was replaced with the current building where Simon’s Tavern sits. Boonah War Memorial and Park is located on Park Street and was unveiled by royalty. Surrounded by a low brick wall, the statue was unveiled in 1920 by the Prince of Wales who later became King Edward VIII. It honors the 374 Boonah area men who enlisted in WWII and the 69 lost to the war. Three names on the statue are brothers from Coochin Coochin Station where the Prince of Wales stayed during the unveiling event. The statue is flanked by two war trophies.
